Bamboo Flooring at West Michigan CarpetBamboo

Bamboo floors are becoming a popular alternative to the hardwood floors.  Bamboo is a fast growing, renewable resource that is very hard and dimensionally stable. Most American homeowners do not know that bamboo is really a type of very long, hollow grass (not wood). Once it goes through the manufacturing process it becomes hard and rigid like wood. Floors made from bamboo can be used in any area of the home where you might use a wood floor. They are also installed and maintained in the same manner as a hardwood floor.

Bamboo floors are available in both solid and engineered planks. The planks have tongue and grooved edges for joining them together. Installation is the same as for wood floors and so are the floor care methods.

Bamboo floors generally come in both a vertical and horizontal graining construction. Each gives a slightly different visual appearance. Bamboo floors are generally offered in both a natural and carbonized color. After cleaning and purifying the long grass bamboo strips, the natural color is a light honey-blonde coloration. To acheive a natural-looking darker, color bamboo strips are subjected to high-pressure and steam which completely saturates the bamboo fibers and creates a soft medium-brown color. This process is called "carbonization".
